An officer of the Nigerian Police has been killed on Thursday during a Wema bank robbery attack at the Ise-Ekiti branch of Wema bank, in the Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Eye9ja understands that the officer whose name is yet to be made public was killed in a sporadical shooting while the Wema bank robbery attack lasted.
This online news platform gathered that the robbers, arrived at the town some minutes past 2:00pm, robbed the bank and its customers of an undisclosed amount of money although suspected to be worth millions of Naira.
The robbers were reported to have come into the town in two vehicles through the Ikere Ekiti road axis of the state.
Eye9ja learned that the robbers broke into the bank using dynamite.
While confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Caleb Ikechukwu said in a statement that reads as thus; “I can confirm to you that a bank was robbed at Ise Ekiti this afternoon and unfortunately a policeman was killed.
“I can confirm to you that a bank was robbed at Ise Ekiti this afternoon.
“The robbers broke the security door with an explosive material, precisely dynamite.
“Our men are on their trail and we shall ensure that none of them escapes.
“Members of the public are advised to go about their normal duties and be rest assured that we are ready to protect lives and property at all times,” he said.
