The President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, has been declared dead, Eye9ja reports.

Eye9ja understands that the government of Burundi announced the death of the President on Tuesday.

Pierre Nkurunziza Cause of Death could be traced to cardiac arrest, as authorities reveal that the Burundi President dies after an attack.

The government in a statement released noted that he was admitted to hospital on Saturday after feeling unwell.

His condition got better but on he had a cardiac arrest and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The Burundi President was expected to step down from the presidency in August after 15 years in power.

Meanwhile, a source revealed that the popular President died after he tested positive to the coronavirus disease, also known as COVID-19 on rampage.

Burundi, officially the Republic of Burundi, is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley where the African Great Lakes region and East Africa converge.
