Reliable information reaching this online news platform reveal that scores of persons have been feared dead, with several others burnt as pipeline explodes in Rivers.
Eye9ja reports that the explosion occurred in the late hours of Monday, June 22.
An Eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the explosion occurred around the neighborhood of Ogoda community, a community located at the Ahoada West axis of the state.
According to the Eyewitness, the pipeline exploded after some of the community boys in the region had attacked the pipeline, with the aim of scooping its crude contents for the purpose of illegally refining the crude.
The source revealed that the community boys had already vandalized the pipeline suspected to be the property of Agip petroleum, and had already started tapping some crude from the pipeline before the explosion occurred.

“Fire ignited at the location as the boys broke into the pipeline to tap out some crude. The fire started and escalated while the boys were in the bush cooking the crude,” the source said in Pidgin language.
Three motorcycles belonging to some of the oil bunkers who were present at the scene when the incident occurred gut burnt in the disaster.
Similarly, some of the bunkers were also reported to have sustained varying degrees of burns as a result of the explosion.
Although, this online news platform could not categorically confirm this report, a related source also revealed that some of the workers of the affected petroleum company, believed to be Agip, whose pipeline got vandalized, were sighted in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 23, at the scene of the disaster to repair the damage the bunkers caused.
“They brought tippers, tractors and drove past the Oyigba community through to the axis of Ogoda community to fix the damage the community boys had done to their pipeline,” the source said.
