N-Power Stipends Grievances: Farouq Reveals What Ministry Will Do

The N-Power scheme is Nigeria’s work-for-cash social assistance programme, inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 with thousands of direct beneficiaries (graduate and non-graduate) spread across the key industries targeted by the programme – Agriculture, Health, Education, and Tax.

N-Power was domiciled under the control of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, but since the commencement of the second tenure of the Buhari administration, Ms Sadiya Farouq’s ministry (Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development) has been in charge.

N-Power: Minister Farouq ‘Armed’ Us, Says Nigerian Youth

Some Igbo youths have commended the Nigerian government for its social intervention programmes in the South East region, saying Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development via the N-Power scheme “armed” them with skills, thereby making them self-reliant, AllNews reports.

Making their position known under the aegis of Igbo Youths for One Nigeria (IYON), the youths hailed Farouq for the Nigerian government’s “interventionist schemes”.

Buhari’s Minister Embroiled in Massive N-Power Corruption Scandal

Over 14, 000 N-Power Batches A and B beneficiaries are still in the dark regarding their five-month outstanding stipend arrears.

Despite the promise by Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development of Nigeria, to pay all outstanding stipends of exited N-Power beneficiaries before the end of 2020, the Nigerian youths are still yet to get paid – 123 days after her pledge. N-Power: Afolabi Imoukhuede Speaks On Fate Of Batch A, B Beneficiaries (Throwback)

Recall pre-2019 general elections when Afolabi Imoukhuede, the then N-Power-Job Creation Cluster Lead of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) promised beneficiaries permanency if they ensure the successful reelection of his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Edo-born technocrat who had prior to the last presidential election in Nigeria pleaded with batch A and B beneficiaries to once more vote President Buhari to enhance their continuity in the famed programme, was quoted to have said that the N-Power heads were in talks with state governments for an exit package for beneficiaries. N-Power: ‘NEXIT Portal Created To Frustrate Batches A, B Beneficiaries’ (ICYMI)

A Nigerian social commentator and ex-N-Power beneficiary, Mustapha Kabir Soron Dinki have accused the Federal Government of creating the NEXIT portal ‘to frustrate a large number of Batches A and B beneficiaries.

Dinki, a foremost youth leader in Kano State who has been vocal with his call for undelayed transition for the exited Batch A and B N-Power beneficiaries, also expressed his utmost disappointment with the government’s handling of the scheme’s transit plan for N-Power batches A and B beneficiaries who have been disengaged since July 2020.
